Family sponsorship
Family sponsorship is one of the main pillars of Canadian immigration. Under a family sponsorship program, Canadian citizens, permanent residents and people registered under Indian’s act can sponsor their spouse, parents, children, grandparents and other eligible applicants living abroad to come to Canada as permanent residents.
Types of Family reunification:
● Spouse, partner or a child
● Parents and Grandparents Sponsorship
● Other members like siblings, nephew, niece etc., subject to certain conditions
Eligibility
1. A sponsor must be over 18 years of age
2. A sponsor must be a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident of Canada, or a person registered in Canada as an Indian under the Canadian Indian Act
3. A sponsor must not be on social assistance
4. Must meet LICO (low income cut off) requirements
5. A sponsor must ensure to the government that he will provide basic needs to the person he is sponsoring.
